Overview
The Asus ROG STRIX GL531GU-WB53 is a good overall gaming laptop. Premium quality, stylish build, and a good budget gaming laptop. Quick run though: nice specs, good design, colorful (if that’s your thing) and does NOT have a webcam. Weird these days for sure.
In terms of specs, here’s a quick breakdown:
-
Nvidia GTX 1660 TI (6GB GDDR6)
-
Intel i5 9300H 2.4Ghz (4.1Ghz boost)
-
15.6″ 1920×1080 120Hz display
-
8GB DDR4 RAM
-
512GB NVMe SSD
So with the decent specs and nice quality, it’s a good laptop for gaming, but it’s probably only really worth it with a decent sale especially with the price bouncing around fairly often. You can even sign up for a price alert below!
Downside?
Like we mentioned earlier, there is no webcam. Sort of a staple on every laptop these days so it’s surprising to see, but if you’re just using it for gaming it’s not really a priority.
This laptop is pretty heavy. A 5lb laptop doesn’t sound like much, but when you can get similar specs for near 4lbs, For most it’s probably not a big deal but if you’re planning on having a daily commuter, this might be a bit on the heavier side.
Conclusion
As with most laptops that have 8GB, upgrade! 16GB of RAM will make quite the difference in your performance. On the heavier side for sure, it still comes with decent overall specs; GTX1660Ti, 120Hz 1920×1080 Display, 512GB NVMe SSD, and an 9th gen i5-9300H that would be considered fairly average. Not amazing, but if it drops under $1000 it’s not a bad deal.
