Overview – Dell G7 Gaming Laptop On A Semi-Budget
The Dell G7 17″ makes for an amazing gaming laptop. This is because it’s probably one of the cheapest laptops on the market right now with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060. At it’s current price point, you’re getting a heck of a deal.
Aside from the RTX 2060, it comes with an Intel i7-9750H, with boost up to 4.5GHz for when you really need it. At 16GB of DDR4 RAM you can multitask multiple applications no problem. For Storage, you’ll have plent with one 256GB SSD, and 1TB HD 5400RPM.
The display isn’t great, but it’s not terrible either. A 1920×1080 IPS is nice to have even if it’s only at 60Hz. Maybe not a deal breaker for most, but any fast paced gamer is definitely going to prefer a 144Hz monitor or better.
Objectively, always. But in this case it’s really only the weight. Coming in at a chunky 7.28lbs. Understandably it’s going to be a bit on the heavier side due to the 17.3″ screen and just being large in general, but still. Quite hefty to be casually carrying around or in a bag all day for a commuter. This is probably going to be better off as a home desk-laptop.
Which actually, is something that’s good about this laptop. The power, USB, and HDMI are in the back of the computer. Way different from the usual side ports, but it does however make for a cleaner look having cables plugged and hidden in the back. actually quite a decent feature. Dell is able to make this possible because the way the screen hinge is setup there’s a space behind. A unique design in a world with laptops having the hinge on the edge of the computer.
Still relating to the screen and commuting, if you plan on traveling with this in your bag taking it in/out daily, you might want to get a thin microfiber cloth. The screen is prone to scratching from the keyboard, so it’s something that could be easily avoided if taking 2 seconds to slip a cloth before closing.
For the price, you can’t really beat this deal. A great gaming laptop with really nice specs for under $1100? Yes please. Currently, Best Buy has the cheapest price for their Black Friday sales that are available well in advanced of Black Friday itself.
Amazon’s version (same model number) comes up as having 144Hz monitor, all else equal. $600 is a bit expensive for the extra Hz as there are other 144Hz screens at better price points. Like this MSI G65 with a 240Hz screen for under $1400. There are lots of options out there if you need that extra 84Hz refresh rate, but for the price the Dell G7 makes for a great gaming laptop this holiday season.
