Overview
The MSI GL63 A great budget gaming laptop! Coming with an average i5 processor, decent RAM, and a FHD screen at 1920×1080. This isn’t a blow it out of the water kind of system, but it’ll get the job done on a budget.
Keep in mind it’s relatively large compared to some of the laptops out there. Coming in at over an inch thick, and weighing just over 5lbs. If the weight isn’t an issue, then this makes for a decent gaming laptop.
If you’re looking for something slimmer at a decent price… The Lenovo Ideapad L340 is a pretty decent compromise for price and size/weight.
As with most laptops trying to run anything more than chrome (even that could be under debate) you’re going to eat through the battery and have to worry about keeping your machine cool. It’s just inevitable.
For the most part, you’ll be gaming plugged in anyway so battery isn’t so much of a concern. Heat however, can be.
If you feel it’s getting too hot for your taste and don’t mind a slight decrease in quality, you could always use a program like MSI Afterburner to throttle your speeds a bit. Last resort sort of thing, but you’ll be fine for the most part till it starts to get dust buildup inside over the months/years.
Upgrading?
Being so cheap, I would even recommend upgrading the ram as well to 16GB with 2 of these for 16GB total, or 2-16GB for 32GB total. You could even upgrade the NVMe SSD, but even at 256GB it’s not too bad to keep in. It’s actually perfect to store your OS and important and heavy apps, then get an extra 2.5″ SSD since there’s actually an open slot for it.
Conclusion
For the price, you really can’t beat it. Even if you’re interested in upgrading making it even more worthwhile.
You’re not going to be able to run every game on ultra mode. You will however, survive on medium/high settings for a few years. Nothing future proof but still a steal if you’re gaming on a shoestring budget.
